Mishaka Pond
Reservoir
Chosen as one of the 100 Select Reservoirs, Mishaka Pond is a famous reservoir that is the subject of Japanese painting master Kaii Higashiyama’s work “Midori Hibiku,” and people who visit it are captivated by the green of the trees reflected on the cobalt blue surface of the water. Since the Shibu River that is source of the water is cold and strongly acidic, the water is warmed and diluted in the reservoir to greatly increase rice output. As the bottom of the pond is overgrown with acidic water loving chatsubomi moss, trees reflect beautifully on the pond’s surface to produce a magical ambiance.
