Yokone Tanbo Rice Terraces
Rice terrace
With new rice fields being developed from the Warring States Period to the Edo Period, there are said to be over 110 rice terraces here with a total area of about 3 hectares (7.4 acres). The gorgeous scenery changes color with the passing seasons, and this site is recognized by “100 Select Japanese Rice Terraces” and “25 Select Shinshu Rural Landscapes.” Conservation efforts mainly by the Yokone Tanbo Conservation Committee and the Yokone Tanbo Guardians aim to preserve these precious rice terraces for future generations, and it has become known as a place to visit on school excursions or to experience agricultural work.
